IC couplers for IGBTs and MOSFETs feature integrated UVLO and isolation to 3.75kV
Düsseldorf, Germany, 10th December 2009 –Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has announced a range of ultra-low-power optically coupled isolators designed to drive IGBTs and power MOSFETs in applications requiring output currents up to ±6.0A. The new TLP358 family of driver IC photocouplers is ideal for industrial inverters, AC/DC servos, induction heating systems, factory automation equipment and other applications that require high output current driver stages.
The TLP358 offers guaranteed performance at temperatures from -40ºC to 100ºC, while the high-temperature type TLP358H is designed for temperatures from -40ºC to 125ºC. Both couplers are available in versions – TLP358F and TLP358HF respectively – that offer minimum creepage and clearance distances of 8mm.
All of the new couplers operate with a maximum supply current of 2mA and feature a minimum isolation voltage of 3750Vrms. Minimum common mode transient immunity is rated at ±15kV/µs. An integrated undervoltage lockout (UVLO) function protects against fault conditions that might cause the voltage to drop below the threshold needed to keep an IGBT in a low resistance state.
Based around a GaAlAs infrared LED and an integrated photodetector, the isolation offered by the TLP358 couplers helps to protect against electric shock, eliminate electrical noise and provide a simple solution for connecting different voltages.
The new couplers are supplied in an 8-pin DIP package measuring 9.7mm x 6.4mm x 3.7mm and will operate with supply voltages from 15V to 30V.
